Writing in 2017

I’m currently recovering from some major jet lag, reflecting on my 2016 and what my goals for 2017 are. It’s very clear to me that time for personal writing took a back seat in 2016. This breaks my heart, since writing is something that I not only love, but find very useful.

About 18 months ago I wrote a post about the importance of reading, writing, and thinking alone. The post was spurred by an article about Mark Zuckerberg, in which he states that “he takes a lot of time to read and think about things by himself.” This is an important lesson for everyone.

A lot happened in 2016, most notably I moved across the world to go work for a global media agency. My life has gone a mile a minute since I made the decision to leave Los Angeles and move to Jakarta. What got lost in my big life transition was time for myself to think and write.

That’s why in 2017, I’m renewing my commitment to this blog. Like always, it’s going to be a hodgepodge of whatever is on my mind. It might be tech/media related, it could be think pieces, or it could be something mindless like pop culture. Whatever I end up writing about, I plan to do a lot more of it this year.

What I won’t be blogging about is my personal life. If you’d like to follow what’s going on with me personally, feel free to subscribe to my weekly newsletter. In it, I’ll keep you updated on my life in Jakarta. Otherwise, here is where I’ll be sharing my free flow of random ideas.
